I get some of my best ideas from seeing what people are talking about on Twitter. I recently noticed a surge in tweets about canning. Turns out there’s a Canvolution going on. Mark your calendar for July 24th and July 25th when canners across America are celebrating the art of ”putting food up” by attending a Canning Across America event or hosting their own canning party.
In preparation for this joyous event I have stocked up on some books to read to learn how to can. I also signed up for a canning class with Marisa McClellan of Food in Jars. Here are my two favorite books so far:
Well Preserved by Eugenia Bone
Put ‘em up! by Sherri Brooks Vinton
I have a vague memory of my mother canning assorted produce when I was younger. She hasn’t done it in years. Unfortunately she does not have her recipes. I fondly remember savoring the cucumbers from our garden that she pickled. She also made some pretty tasty stewed tomatoes.
I’ve been scouring various websites for recipes and ideas. I cannot wait to get started. Of course, I will need some supplies before I get started which means I need to make a trip to Fante’s. Woo!

I keep missing this event and really need to get with the program! Need to put my pressure cookers to additional use! So much to be made! (nice finding you via @cookininstyle)
Bren there’s still plenty of time to use your pressure cooker. I picked up some fresh blueberries and peaches from a local farm. Ripe and ready for canning! Btw, great to find you too. Just checked out your site. So excited to find someone with Latin recipes. Yum!
